Work closed early today and people absolutely would not leave. This is an occasional problem for me, but since they’re not buying anything, chasing them out is usually as simple as politely reminding them of the time.
NOT TODAY! We closed, I made an announcement over the speakers, I started cleaning up, I walked over and told people to start heading toward the exit, I flipped the lights off, and still they would not leave! I even went into a back room and came out duel-wielding spray bottles of cleaning fluid and announced that I was “about to start spraying chemicals”. You’d think that would work, but no! I even stripped away layers of “friendly politeness” almost all the way to “direct bluntness”, but it took almost twenty goddamn minutes to get every single visitor out. I wanted to like… sound some kind of shrill, screeching alarm to drive them off.
I dislike this!
